PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

May 2009

Hi Flyfishers,

We have finally got a taste of hot weather.  I was so glad to put on shorts and sandals and soak in some sun.  The warm weather graced us at the Frenchman’s Fishout on Sunday May 17.

That may explain why we had 23 anxious anglers gathered at SnallyGaster Point to get the hot fly from the fishmaster.  Wes Ong had done his homework and prefished the reservoir.  He indentified a small midge that the trout were feeding on a couple of days before.  However, the day of the fishout there was a major ant fall and the fish proved to be very selective.  The fishing was fair in the morning and using indicators with snow cones and rubber legged copper Johns, I managed to catch 8 rainbow.  My biggest fish was 20 inches. Bud was getting lots of hits using a long leader, floating line and a sheep creek special.

Some thanks are in order for those folks who made this a great fishout.  Billy Lampson, Wes Ong and Mark Warren put together a great lunch.  Wes had a potato and bacon soup and Mark barbequed brats and brought all the fixings.

We had new members Aaron and Brandon Leary show up and Mike Sevon brought float tubes so they could join everyone on the water.  Mike and Mark helped the Leary’s set up their flies and provided some fishing tips.  Aaron had a hit right away , but they both got the fin.  They remain anxious and were headed to Stampede on their next day off.

To each of you, I hope you enjoy the spring fishing.  Don’t forget to put the weekend of June 13-14 on your calendar for our next fishout at Lake Davis.

Your Pres,

Tillie

Let your hook be always cast. In the pool where you least expect it, will be a fish.

Conservation Work Day:July 18

On July 18th, the Truckee River Flyfishers have been invited to do volunteer work for the Nature Conservancy at the McCarran Ranch  east of Reno.

We'll start around 12:00 noon, and help pull invasive weeds for about three hours. Later, we'll have something  to eat at the ranch BBQ area — restrooms will be available. As part of our volunteer effort, the Conservancy has invited us to fish their section of the restored river- an area not open to the public. You'll need gloves, etc for the weed pulling. Don't miss this unique opportunity — a first for our club! If you have
questions, contact Joe Cendagorta or Wes Ong.
